I have been using Dragon NaturallySpeaking for approximately four years and would not manage without it!

I work for an internationally-based not-for-profit organisation with in excess of 2500 members around the world, all of whom communicate primarily via email. Together with this I do a lot of report writing for the organisation for which I work, and often undertake contract work of this type. Obviously this means a great deal of typing!

Given that I am partially sighted and never learned to touch type correctly, typing involves me watching the keyboard as I type – what a pain! But then along came Dragon. Within a very short time, I realised that if anyone took away my Dragon system I might as well give up work!

Over the period of time I have been using the system both via system updates and my own dictionary creation the system accuracy has improved until in most cases I can dictate two or three multi-paragraph emails in a row without any correction of spelling or terminology being necessary. To be able to start Dragon and then simply sit back and tell the system what to do from that point on is absolute bliss as far as I’m concerned. And, although I use text enhancing software which means I can still read what I dictate, I know the facility is available within Dragon to read the information back to me.

Should my site deteriorate further Dragon is a system that will enable me to remain employed. To say I love this system would be an understatement!

Many years have passed since I first attempted to use a voice direct system. I recall the time many years ago, when I first installed one of the early direct systems followed by two other different methods, they all proved to be somewhat cumbersome, and not very useful.

But recently I installed the Dragon NaturallySpeaking 10 Preferred and was quite astonished by the small amount of voice recognition required when it straightaway began following my voice and was immediately able to copy my spoken sentence.

To an elderly person like myself, somewhat more than 90 years of age; today being able to sit back and forget the keyboard with folded arms, to watch the words; when my thoughts are magically being typed on to the screen in front of me, is most rewarding.

The system is the equivalent of a secretary available at any time of day or night, which costs nothing, simply responding to the touch of a key. Paying an equally competent secretary for the same amount of time required many hundreds of dollars in wages.

Installing the Dragon NaturallySpeaking 10 Preferred costs a fraction of the weeks wages were one to employ a competent secretary and it has the ability to recognise my aged not-so-clear voice.

I have fondly named the system JANE. Jane has one disadvantage; she does not make the coffee.
